Trying to Understand Social Media and SEO

July 10, 2013

By Susan Escalante
Director of Public Relations, Federal Financial Group LLC

If you are new at social media and SEO, I have a couple of things to help you get started!  First of all, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. When a website link has value, as determined by a search engine,  it shows up closer to the top of a search return. A lot of entities are interested in having their ranking high on the first page since most searchers only look at the first page of a search return. Let me explain that in layman’s terms: If you “google” something, you get several pages of possible links that will help you. Often you find the thing you need right there on the first page, right? Yes, so that is why everyone wants to show up there – as if to say “Pick me! Pick me!”

To get a quick look at the most important social media platforms you can go to one of my other articles, “How to Use Social Media to Promote Your Business” and to learn more about SEO, Search Engine Land posted this 3.5 minute video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF515-0Tduk  It explains quickly what SEO is.

Social media and SEO can take some time, but it does pay off if it is set-up correctly. I literally got an email today that someone in our organization closed a six-figure business agreement from someone who found him on Facebook. He also has an appointment this afternoon with someone else who called him from seeing him on social media. More about this in another article later! But for now let’s just say that social media marketing does work!

Best wishes as you set up your system! I hope this information helped you get started off on a profitable path!

Federal Financial Group LLC Can Help You Have More Joy and Peace of Mind

We all get bogged down in our worldly routines sometimes. Let’s not forget that one of our purposes for being here is to enjoy it. Be kind to yourself; arrange your life to be more joyful! And help others do the same!

Recently our co-workers were asked “How long have you been here?” followed by “Why are you here?” Roughly 97% of them answered that they were here to help others find the peace of mind that comes from good financial and retirement planning. It felt good to hear that they were not just showing up for the money. As some explained, we could choose to do a lot of different things to earn a living. We choose this because it helps people to enjoy life!

Managing Your Debt

June 18, 2013

Printed word

By Josh Rice, Public Relations Specialist with Federal Financial Group LLC

Do you have debt problems? Or just want to get a better grasp on what you owe? Here are some tips that can help.

Debt Collector calls

Calls from debt collects can be scary and intimidating. Here are some tips that might help you with them.

-If the debt collector is threatening you, is verbally abusive, uses bad language or calls you a lot, then the debt collector is violating federal law with these actions. Write down what they are doing. Include the date and time, name of the debt collector or agency, and the specific debt you are contacted about.

-If you agree with the person that you owe the money but you can’t pay it in a lump sum, try to work out payment plan options.

-If you think the amount that you owe is different than what the collector says, don’t agree with them; dispute the amount. Put your dispute in writing within 30 days of the call and send it to the debt collector.

-Ask the debt collector to send you a written amount of what you owe. This should include all fees, charges and detailed billing account.

-Don’t share your personal information. Don’t give the debt collectors your Social Security number, the name of your bank, or bank account number. This will just cause you more headaches.

-Never have casual conversation with a debt collector. This may give info that can be used against you.

Resources for managing your Debt-

If you’re drowning in debt, a credit counseling agency can be a great help. Use caution when finding an agency to help you manage debt, not every agency is as dependable as they say. Use any of the following resources to find a legitimate credit counseling agency:

Preparing to meet with a credit counselor- What to bring

-Bring a list of all your debts

-Debt related paperwork.

-Your Budget

-A list of what you are willing to give up to get what you want

Variety is the Spice of Life!

Variety is the spice of life!

Variety is the Spice of Life

By Susan Escalante, Director of Public Relations, Federal Financial Group LLC

Being bored in life is a choice. There is an unlimited amount of ways to be creative. We can look outside ourselves or be introspective to find things to bring happiness and joy into our lives. The key, however, is to have variety. Without variety, even the job that started out fun can become mundane.

Successful people recognize that a person cannot always be focusing on one thing. Just this morning my boss explained that yesterday he went hiking and traveled to a different nearby city for lunch so that he could take a complete break from work on Memorial Day. He usually is so focused on work that he has to consciously make an effort to include variety in his life.

We often hear this complaint from teenagers “I am so bored.” With them I usually counter with ideas like writing a book, drawing a picture, something that makes them use their creative side. Of course, some parents say, “I can find something for you to do!”

As we go through our career years we get so wrapped up in work that many of us have to consciously make an effort to try new things. It is worth it, though. The variety, even though we resist at first, is really good for refreshing our brain.

7 Things Done by People Who are Successful with Social Media

7 steps to social media success

People who use social media tend to do a lot of the same things to be successful with it. They also learn from each other. Most people are willing to share tips they have picked up along the way if asked. Here are some of the common things:

1 – Listen to others

Of course, you hear this lot in most soft skills that involve communication with real people. Listening to others before you just jump in and start throwing out all that you have been up to is a skill you learned at some point in growing up.  The same principle applies to social media. You don’t want to just start blurting out how great you are. Listen and communicate with others first. Get a feel for how things are shared. Then you can ease your way into sharing your links, photos, and thoughts.

2 – Your thoughts

Social media successes do not outsource the things they share in social media. One of my favorites is Ricky Gervais, comedian, actor, producer who started the wildly popular show, THE OFFICE, in England. He has a Twitter account @RickyGervais and it is clear that he writes his tweets. Oh, maybe he dictates them to an assistant who does the actual keyboarding, but many of the tweets are straight from his personality and it shows!

3 – Personality

Which is a great segway into the third observation: the most successful users of social media allow their personality to show. Of course, being professional is key since offensive comments and photos are reported. However, sharing a bit of your personal life or funny things in your business make your social media unique and interesting!

4 – Believe

People who use social media believe that they have something to share that will add value. They have confidence that they are a part of a large community and that someone out there will actually read or see what they have shared.

5 – Social Media Platforms

Realizing that one message will not fit all platforms helps set aside very successful social media buffs from those who just participate because they think they should. Sometimes a comment that will work well on Twitter will fall flat on Facebook. It takes a while to figure this out, but that is why I don’t recommend using one multi-tasking social media platform.

6 – Use various platforms

People who succeed at social media use a variety of platforms. The most used are the big three: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Pinterest is quickly becoming used by all kinds of people promoting their causes and businesses.

7 – Quality not quantity

Quality rules in social media. Just because you have ten wonderful things to promote does not mean you should tweet each one, right after the other. Space it out. You don’t want to overload those people who are actually following what you are doing. This is your chance to be selective and put your best foot forward.

Hopefully this has been helpful as you hone your social media skills! Happy tweeting! ;D

No Complaints Here: Staying Home for Memorial Day in the Salt Lake City Area, By Susan Escalante, Director of Public Relations for Federal Financial Group LLC

Yummy!

For some fun summer activities, how about a hike around one of the many beautiful lakes in the Uintah Mountain Range? Fishing from the shore of a lake or reservoir sounds like a productive way to sun bathe. The Heber Train might be a fun photo opportunity for the family!

3 Keys to Building a Strong Business

May 16, 2013

marissa mayer

By Josh Rice, Public Relations Specialist with Federal Financial Group LLC

Yahoo over the last couple of years has been on the decline. They were starting to lose to a lot of their competitors and their revenue was showing it. They decided that they needed a change in their leadership and Marissa Mayer was the person for that. Before Marissa became the CEO of Yahoo, she was one of the lead executives at Google. You name it, she had something to do with whatever Google was involved in. A lot of what Google is today is because of what Marissa did over her 13 years with the company. Marissa’s next challenge was to turn a huge company with declining profits into what it was years ago. She would use a philosophy that she perfected at Google to start this processes.

Marissa referred to this as the first of three big “sprints” in her effort to turn Yahoo around. First, Yahoo is working to get “great people,” then it will use to those people to build “great products,” and finally those products will lead to more user engagement, which in turn will boost the company’s ad revenue. It’s a long-term strategy.

These three things can make or break companies. I thought it would be interesting to break down these three things and why they are so important.

Great People - For any company it’s about getting great talent that can lead the company forward. This kind of talent will shape your company to either be profitable or not be. Great people bring great ideas that will make your company great. When you have them you will also want to keep them. This is one thing that Marissa has been working on with Yahoo since she has been there.

Great Products – Great products keep your customers entertained, wanting more and keep coming back. It’s always hard to constantly produce that product that the public just can’t get enough of. Great people and great products go hand in hand. If you have one, then you have the other one.

More Revenue - If your company is profitable, that’s all that matters. Marissa says if we hire great people, it will lead to a great products and in turn, the company will have more revenue. That’s the secret just three steps and over time you will see the end result, more revenue.

P.S. Federal Financial Group LLC is always looking for great people for our company. Call: 888-305-4008
